Keeping Romance Alive
By Sandra Rouse
Keeping romance alive in your relationship means you remember the important days such as your anniversary or Valentine Day. It also means that you create special occasions for your partner. A special occasion can be as simple as giving your partner a greeting card or writing a love letter.
Here are some creative suggestions to keep romance alive.
Creativity goes a long way in keeping romance alive. You can make your own greeting cards. If you want to give your partner a poem expressing your love, check out a copy of Shakespeare’s sonnets from the library. Write one on a beautiful piece of paper, place it in an envelope and give it to “The One I Love.”
Be creative by placing notes or gifts in unusual places such as concert tickets under the pillow or hiding a gift in a bouquet of flowers or in the refrigerator.
Create your own special occasion. Write a proclamation on parchment paper stating that this is “Our Week.” Each day of the week, starting on Monday, do something special for your partner. On Saturday, prepare a picnic lunch or have one specially made up for you at a local deli or restaurant. Create an invitation to meet you at your favorite park and place it where it is sure to be noticed. When your partner arrives, have the picnic spread out. Bring along a portable CD player with your favorite songs. On Sunday, spend the morning in bed, go out to brunch in the afternoon, and walk off your meal at your favorite museum. Return home to a quiet evening of music, dancing, and a candlelight supper.
Create your own gift-of-the-month club. Look for sales at your favorite department stores. Purchase a gift for each month of the year for your partner. Place the gift in a different place each month or make special presentations at a different time and on a different day of each month. Remember the special gift days such as your anniversary with a special gift and a special presentation.
Keeping romance alive is about the spontaneous, little things you do. A gaze in the eyes, or a touch of the hand as you pass, or a hug, or just cuddling will show your partner you care.
